Telehealth
What is telehealth?
Telehealth involves the use of telecommunications (e.g. video calls, phone calls) to provide clinical services to clients, their caregivers, or other person(s) involved in their care. Telehealth is used when face-to-face services are not available due to travel restictions, and/or complex primary health concerns.
How does it work?
EarlyLinks has decided to use an Australian based online communication platform called COVIU, to provide practical strategies and interventions when Telehealth has been consider appropriate in supporting goal achievement. COVIU was selected because it meets the Australian guidelines for security, confidentiality, and does not store video recordings.
All you need to participate in Telehealth using COVIU is an internet connection, and device that can receive/send video and audio information e.g. a phone, iPad or computer. Your therapist will provide you further details in the simple setup process and support you if needed, prior to your session.
Medicare and health insurance
As of March 30th Medicare Items (EPC, CarePlan, Autism Funding, Mental Health) for Occupational Therapy Telehealth sessions CAN be CLAIMED. However, rebates through Private Health cover need to be checked with individual providers.
NDIS funding can also be used with an updated service quote which states specifically that TeleHealth can be used to deliver services.
